A Home Plan In The Works

I’m still here but working enthusiastically on the floor plan this week. We’re happy with what the architect has done but there were changes we wanted made. So this week I’m been busy plugging the plans into my program which allows me to see it in 3-D.

I was so caught up into the plan on Monday that I sat in the same seat with only one cup of coffee ‘til Bobby got home from work. I literally wondered where the day went and that night I couldn’t sleep so I was up ‘til 3:30 a.m. giving more thought to the plan.

Yesterday was pretty much a carbon copy of Monday however I did break for lunch, albeit a 3:00 p.m. lunch. And then I was up until 2:00 a.m. still poring over the plan. It would only be fair to say I did go back to bed after I got Bobby off to work both days.

Today I concentrated on adding windows, window treatments, appliances, cabinetry, furniture, color to the walls and pretty much detail ~ detail ~ detail… I do realize I don’t need these details right now, but I just can’t help myself. This program is just way cool!

We’re looking so forward to this 3 day holiday weekend and plan to continue working together on the plan to be able to submit our changes by Monday. We have about a 40 day window to work with the architect to have the plan just the way we want it and then they will begin work on our home. I look forward to the day we drive out there to see our home begin to take shape.

  1. Aren’t those programs the absolute coolest thing!?!? I spent a ridiculous amount of hours playing with mine, Rick thought I was just nuts! He still talks about it once in awhile, how consumed I was, but we laugh about it.

It was quite hilarious but it was also extremely helpful to this newbie since I could not tell by looking at a generic house plan how big a room actually was. Once I put it into my handy dandy program and had furniture in the room I knew then if it was too big, too small, etc.

We both have no doubt that if we hadn’t had that program we would have ended up with a house vastly different from what would have been happy with. And I must say, Rick became pretty enthralled with it to, as we got closer to moving!

    Enjoy!!!

  2. Thanks Mary Ellen, It’s good to know I’m not going completely crazy.

Bob was the one that suggested last weekend that I plug the plan into my program so that we could fool around with the changes. Can’t believe I didn’t think about it first.

I can read plans really well but what I like to see is color choices. I thought I wanted my kitchen and living room done in a lush meadow green color. After putting the color up I’ve now decided on candlelight yellow. And I think yellow is going to be my color of choice for the dining room too. And now that I think about it, I’m leaning towards green again this afternoon.

I’ve selected a color for the exterior of the house and have even picked the color for the front door. Of course Bobby and I both need to agree on this but he has stated that I get to color our world and I can’t wait. Now I’m getting nervous as we’ve always had the normal white/off white builder’s grade paint. And really plunging in can be a little nerve racking.

  3. I’ve been to two different homes that have a yellow that sounds like what you described in their main living area and it really looks nice – it seems to “go” with about any decor.

Our master bedroom and bathroom are a green that I just love and have been very, very happy with. I’m sure whatever you choose it will look great.

I’m getting anxious to have the main part of the house repainted, after almost five years here (coming up on five years next month) it could use it and I want a different color for the main area.

It can be scary but the right colors on the walls make each room pop! Our painter recommended buying sample sizes of the paint we thought we wanted, painting a rectangular chunk real quick with a roller, letting it dry and then looking at it in daylight and by lamp light. We did that and it was a great idea! We realized that a pale pink room looked lavender in sunlight so we went with a different shade of pink since lavendar wasn’t the color we wanted at all, we realized the blue for the nursery was too bright so had it halved (where they add white and the color comes out so much softer) and it was the perfect shade.

I am so excited for you and am really looking forward to watching the process on your blog.
