New Growth and Color in the Garden

Happy Weekend!

It’s an exciting weekend. We’re relaxing, enjoying each other and the fruits of our labor.

Early this morning, I snapped a few pictures to remember some of the things in bloom late January.

Last weekend we started our annual garden. We are thrilled to see our tomatoes already! Each day we take note of how much they are stretching towards the sunshine.

DSC_3343

Our little daisies made an appearance too!

DSC_3353

Out in the garden, the blossoms are many. The ice plant in full bloom.

DSC_3371

What a delight to watch the ground cover that we planted last year. It is filling in beautifully.

DSC_3374

Our birds are in full bloom too.

DSC_3381

Even the tiny flowers on this rather large bush are so delicate yet colorful.

DSC_3403

The honeysuccle adds such a punch of color on the upper terrace.

DSC_3400

The roses tend to bloom year round in So Cal. Another bud getting ready to share its beauty.

DSC_3421

While we enjoy the growth and beauty, it’s still a little on the chilly side to stay too long out doors in the early morning hours. We have mid to upper 60’s in the day and low to mid 40’s at night. Welcome to winter in southern CA. But we are not complaining.

While the seasons change, I’m thankful to find beauty along the way.

The Best of Both Worlds

Hey, hey peeps! Thanks for stopping by. Today I’m enjoying all things new and hope you are having a great day, wherever you are.

There are times we want the best of both worlds. And some days we can have it. And sometimes we only want the best of both worlds for just a bit.

IMG_2875 copy

Take for instance the days I wish for both long and short hair at the same time. Yesterday was not one of those days. No, I was done with long hair. Completely done!

So I found the scissors and cut to the approximate desired length/favorite  bob of all time on one side, while I waited hours for my hair appointment to finally arrive.

Note: this is not the first time I’ve pulled a stunt like this. Teehee.

But what was I thinking? I had errands to run before my hair appointment. Oh well, I walked out the door with my head held high, knowing I was living the dream of long and short hair for just a day. And passers by may have looked at the half bob on one side and all the long hair and thought to themselves. “Could this be the new do for 2016?” I doubt it but it was fun to think when someone may or may not have looked my way thinking crazy lady right there.

IMG_2856 copy copy

Do not do said mentioned above “IF” you have not given ample time to think about said decision. I gave it about 6 months of strong desires to get rid of it.

My reasons vary as to why I wanted it off. The heat of summer and hair on my neck do not get along. Which is one of the reasons I was trying to wait out the winter before cutting. It’s constantly in the way and I’m not a fan of wearing it up all the time, especially when I’m sleeping. Not an option. I became a slave to long hair and kept it around because I really like long hair.

My reasons for cutting it off are simple, I really like short hair too. And I’m certain in a couple of years, I will want the best of both worlds again.

IMG_2882 copy

Until then, I’m enjoying the carefree days of short hair.

How about you, do you make quick decisions? Do you take the time to think things out? Do you make crazy decisions and jump head first into your decision before the desired help has arrived?

Good stuff to think about, No?

Happy New Year

Much has happened between now and the time I last posted.

I feel like I’ve been sick for way too long. From dealing with muscle issues in my back for a couple of months to catching a cold on Christmas night. It finally feels good to have the old me back.

A big Happy New Year shout out from our home to yours!

bobdeb2015F

Little reminders from the last couple of months.

This friendly reminder was shot at the salon. A nice reminder that shows how they love to treat their customers.

IMG_2632

A nice reminder of my love for putting all things Christmas up on the day after Halloween. Better known as November 1st. It makes perfect sense to enjoy those evenings when the time change hits and makes the world dark before it should.

IMG_2647 2

The best reminder of family. We traveled to see family for thanksgiving. What a special treat to have my two siblings, all nieces and nephews. Our nephew and his new bride. Our nephew and his fiancé, mom and dad and my grandma. Talk about great memories with family, it doesn’t get any better.

DSC_3136

A reminder as I was getting ready to have my bookclub friends over to discuss our 2016 schedule.

DSC_3273

A reminder of the morning beverages for the girls.

DSC_3268

And a little reminder of the fruit bowl and other morning snacks (brownies and biscotti) on the dining room table. Following our morning meeting, we girls headed to Olive Garden for a wonderful lunch and more fellowship.

DSC_3267

A reminder of the hubs amazing smoked brisket over his 2 week Christmas holiday. Loved spending those two weeks together around home sweet home.

While I don’t have a photo of the amazing chili he made with the brisket leftovers, I will never forget how wonderful it was. I rank it as the best chili ever made.

DSC_3326

I don’t have a reminder picture of the fish we purchased for our pond, but I’ll never forget that wonderful experience with the hubs over Christmas. If you are reading this, My Love, Thank You!

A reminder of carolers on Christmas day.

IMG_2739

A pretty reminder of where we sat enjoying our Christmas dinner. The view of ice-skating beneath the palm trees with an ocean view, what a delight.

IMG_2763

A beautiful reminder of how we stayed until nearly sunset. We savored desert and slowly ever so slowly sipping my coffee while visiting with the hubs and taking in the view.

IMG_2776

Approximately 2 hours after our Christmas dinner, I told the hubs “I feel a sore throat coming on”. And on the morning of December 26th, I woke  to a sniffling, sneezing, aching, coughing, stuffy head sort of cold. The sort of cold where the hubs dropped everything and took care of me. After the 1st week, I told the hubs, “This feels like a 3 week cold”. Turns out, it was a 3 week cold.

A reminder of how pretty it was one morning as the sun came up. Especially since it rained the day before. A reminder of how the hubs made me promise to stay inside while I was sick. A reminder of my view from the sofa where I sat feeling miserable from my cold that morning. A reminder that I obeyed and took this image from inside the house. Thank you for taking care of me, My Love. And bringing medicine to me when I did not feel like moving. You’re the BEST!

DSC_3335

Our New Years Reminder – I was still sick, but we watched the ball drop at Times Square, per usual. We kissed, yes, the hubs kisses me, even when I’m sick. And wished each other a Happy New Year. And chose to get an early start on sleep that night. No staying up for us until the New Year on the west coast, when we can watch it ring in on the east coast.

While I only have a few reminders in picture form, I’m thankful for the blessings of family, love and feeling back to my old self again.

Happy New Year!

Blessings – Debbie

October

Time is on the move. And I better do something on the blog, as time is not going to wait a moment.

So October rolled in with my friend wanting to use me as a subject in her photography class.

And 9 x’s out of 10 she asked me to take off my glasses. Something I would never do for a photographer or anyone. But for her and her assignment, I obliged. But I still can’t figure out if it was the way she bribed me or not. She kept telling me that I looked like a 12-year-old school girl. The bribe seemed to work. But looking at the image, it just doesn’t feel like the “real” me. I’m a glasses wearing gal from the time I rise and shine to the time I fall asleep. And if you are one of the few to catch me without glasses,  it’s a rare happening. So here ya go.

IMG_debbie-7954_IMG_

No smiles she would say. Looking for that serious side of you. Here’s what she captured. We had such a fun day in her studio.

IMG_debbie-7973_IMG_a

We had a nice little rain early October. I captured an image between raindrops.

DSC_2784

I would say this past October was one of the warmer ones we’ve had since we moved here. Can you believe we’ve already been here 6 years this October?

My little mid October stroll in the garden one “cooler” morning.

DSC_2806

I got so excited this particular morning to see the orange rose-tree in full bloom. It’s a tree I hand-picked to sit next to the pond. There’s just something about the color of the fish and rose that makes me smile.

DSC_2912

Enjoying my new mugs from Costco and coffee as the sun comes up.

DSC_2857

In other October news. We had a little minor issue in our bathroom. Floor tiles needed replacing, toilet needed replaced (well not really, but we wanted a new one) and I decided while we were at it to go ahead and paint the baseboards and paint the bathroom. It’s great being on this end with all things fresh in our master bath.

Cheers to a wonderful season with the hubs and getting things back to normal around the homestead.

But wait. I still have a big project to finish this weekend. A reminder that there will always be something to do and there is no such thing as normal. Or is there?

Blessings – Debbie

Oh Summer You Went So Fast

Dear summer of 2015, thank you for your bountiful blessings.

We were so excited about our grape-vine this year, that we picked up two more vines and planted them. Unfortunately, around picking time, there were no grapes left for us. Lesson learned, we will cover them with a net to keep the birds away next time.

DSC_2462

And our little pumpkin patch flourished with more pumpkins than we could use this autumn. Unfortunately, we just ended up tossing them as we planted a little too early this year. Lessons learned…

DSC_2461

Fresh summer California berries deserve a standing ovation. Amen…

July 10th – An exciting day! Our solar panels were delivered. A big shout out for solar energy, oh happy day! We are so thrilled to have that done.

Enjoyed our Sweet 16 Anniversary. Feeling blessed and so very happy to spend life with My Love. It truly has been a great adventure.

Mid August – Taking pictures lately? That’s the question my photographer friend asked while we were out having some girl time. No was the reply. No was her reply too. We think it has to do with the overload from school that put us both over the edge. However, we both still love our camera and in no way are we putting it on the shelf. Just taking a little breather. Here’s an image of roses I brought in from the garden. Made me so very happy…

DSC_2555

August 31 – Spent hours by the waterfall = My favorite place to chill. The activity in and around the pond = priceless.

DSC_2582

I love a garden with flowers and fish. I’m thankful each day to have both. Love our Shubunkin pumpkins as I fondly call them. This guy was wondering when I would stop shooting and feed him.

Threw a paint filter on this in Photoshop, because I thought it needed a little something somethin.

Loving my babies! It has to be one of my favorite spots to visit.

DSC_2694 copy

Yes, we have watermelon! And I must say, it is some of the best melon ever. It continues to produce and we’ve enjoyed it daily for weeks.

DSC_2721

One of the great blessings of the week is – I have the hubs home taking a little vacation with me. Loving this time together around Home Sweet Home.

Back to celebrating his time off. Happy Day! And Happy Catching up on the Blog… Well as much catching up as I plan to do. I know there are things I missed like special dates and such, but I’m calling it quits and caught up. And feeling blessed.

Happy Day and Blessings – Debbie

Springtime in CA 2015

I know, it’s autumn, but I plan to do some spring catching up on the blog. I can’t seem to move forward without catching up. It’s time.

I’m still here. Kicking it and loving life.

The Queen’s Tea

Picking up where I left off on the girls spring break.

Following our day in La Jolla, we decided to have a fun “girl” day. So we made reservations at Tea Upon Chatsworth for High Tea.

The Queen’s Tea to be exact. The description goes something like this. Our platinum 2 hour, 4-course tea service with 12 items with unlimited pots of premium loose-leaf tea.

What a special memory shared with the girls who have a fond love for tea.

And the best part, enjoying a spot of tea.

DSC_0478

Each little bite was goodness.

DSC_0492

And time well spent.

DSC_0488

We conclude that every girl should take time to enjoy her tea. I love that this was my first “official tea” with our nieces, who’ve been steeped with tea parties since they were just bitty.

DSC_0500

After tea, we made a stop at the nearby beach. Point Loma to be exact.

DSC_0520

What a picture perfect day with the girls.

DSC_0510

I have just one more post to conclude spring break. I’ll be back!

Another Day of Spring Break Play

Up first, a visit to Thyme in The Ranch. A great little place for an early lunch with the girls.

I found this place on Yelp, a long time ago. And the day I went, it was closed. So I kept it in mind and thought it would be a fun place to take the girls. We give it 5 stars!

Our selfie on the patio.

Next up, we were off to La Jolla to see the seals.

Spring Break Continued

A day spent around home. In no particular order.

The girls took off on a walkabout around the house.

10

And found themselves here.

8

Love that they shared these wonderful images with me.

11

It was also a good day to meet up with the hubs for lunch. We had Mongolian. Basically, you put your meat, veggies noodles and sauces in a bowl and they cook it on the grill behind the counter.

3

Back to the table, you enjoy your very own creation.

2

It was also a perfect day to pick up some new fish for the pond. The girls each picked a fish and I added 5 more to the order. They also named their fish Gator and Toothless. Great meaning behind each.

9

A little relaxation was thrown into the mix.

DSC_0312

Catalina Island

Our nieces spring break, continued as promised.

The next day, we were off to Catalina Island.

Getting ready to board the Catalina Express (boat) directly behind us. Such fun to make a little 1 hour and 15 min. journey across the ocean to the island.

a

As we approached Catalina, we passed the Carnival Imagination docked at the island. It made our boat feel so small.

b

Once we arrived, we decided to do a little walk about to search for lunch. We decided to stop at the first place that called our name. A seaside lunch seemed the perfect choice.

e

Our view was spectacular!

d

And lunch was so yummy.

c

With full tummies, we were off on our next great adventure. We rented a golf cart, such that we could cover a lot of territory.

cart

And territory did we ever cover. Love my nieces panorama!

h

We made a stop at the Wrigley Memorial.

j

What a great place to visit.

k

And much to explore. The girls loved the doors, me too!

l

It’s hard to take everything in in one day. But we sure gave it our best shot.

m

Back to our cart to cover a little more ground.

photo

And stopped at will to enjoy the views and take images of selfies in progress.

p

With the time we had left, we stopped for a cool beverage and made time for a little souvenir shopping for the girls. They each picked up a Catalina shirt and a couple of things for a special friend.

q

The end of our glorious day on Catalina, but I have more spring break to cover.

To be continued…

Happy Easter

I’m blessed and thankful

The show must go on. This bit about getting so far behind on the blog will have to wait for another day to fill in the last month.

What a crazy week this has been.

The hubs has been sick all week. So I handpicked some roses from the garden to brighten his day.

DSC_0726

We’ve had over 12 rose bushes in bloom during the course of the week. Spring has showered us with a lot of pretty color.

DSC_0654

Even our pink water lily decided it was time to come out this spring. Did you know water lilies go dormant in the winter, losing the pads and everything? I did not know this a couple of years ago when we moved into this home. When the winter came, I thought all the lilies were dying. Then I called the pond guy and he explained the whole thing.

And so the girls official spring break and our quality time with the girls began.

The hubs and me on our way to pick them up!

But the hubs didn’t sleep in too late, as we all had a date! And off to visit Coronado Island and the Hotel Del was our first stop.

DSC_0281

We were going to have an early lunch right here on the patio. But the wait for them to open was like an hour and a half.

DSC_0275

So we piled in the car and headed to Mission Beach for a little lunch on the pacific. We took note of the Tsunami sign in route.

DSC_0290

While there, we had a little stroll along the pacific and down this cool pier.

Early March – In Like a Lion

Well good day! Finally, I’m back!

Yes, I’m back to bite off early March, bit by bit. I’m not so thrilled when I get this far behind, but I refuse to carry on as if nothing happened. There is so much to catch up on and there is no better time than now to start. Well, all of those yesterdays would have been a good time too, but they’re gone.

So here goes…

The date, March 2nd. – There was a crazy loud boom as March unfolded. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. We were blasted with hail.

Totally in like a lion.

DSC_0232-1

I don’t think the fish have ever experienced this much commotion. I know I haven’t.

DSC_0229-1

And I know the palms were probably in shock. This just doesn’t happen in So Cal. Or does it? It was a first for us in the 5 years we’ve lived here.

It was a month of fire too. Nice evenings spent around the fire pit. This was another early March weekend evening. (actually, this shot was taken the morning after) I still remember the day, it was one of the many days I had spent 99% of my time outdoors. And looking up into the clear night sky peppered with stars and planets, was glorious.

During late February – early March, we had the old plantings ripped out of the immediate left side of the waterfall. I had been working on transplanting things from around the yard to the area. It will be fun to watch the ground cover spread and the plants blossom. I also planted 4 roses in various areas on the upper terrace. Meals were also enjoyed on the patio. This is pretty much where I spent a good deal of time…

An early foggy Monday morning. Note the purple wisteria in bloom.

As mid March drew near, I was beginning to think of all the stuff that needed a little sprucing before company arrived on the 14th.

So I started Wednesday, the 11th at the car wash, then salon.

The hubs wanted a smile. Much better he said.

Then we waited for our guests to arrive.

Oh wait, one more lil thing!

On the 13th, we had the electricians over to add LED lights in the kitchen and dining room. “What were we thinking” were my thoughts, when company was due to arrive the next day. So much dust, oh the dust…But in the end, we were so happy to have the job done. And all the dust bunnies were put to rest before company arrived.
