Debbie Goes Bouffant…

Hubby found a rain cap a few days ago while cleaning out some more of ma’s boxes in the garage. Let me tell ya, that rain hat is brand spankin’ new, still in the wrapping, equipped with a full visor, and says right on the wrapping “designed for bouffant hairstyles.” That cracked both of us up and Hubby chimed in that my hair style fit the description.

After careful inspection, and even opening the bag to have a closer look and trying it on for size…I promptly threw it in the garbage. I didn’t think much about it ‘til Hubby said…“I thought you would have put it in the truck for a rainy day.” Hmm, that’s not such a bad idea so the new rain hat has been rescued as of today and now in my safe keeping and will eventually make its way to my truck. Who knows, one day I might be very thankful for my new rain gear especially designed for bouffant doo’s.

As summer approaches with hot weather and all…I have to get my hair away from my face as I can’t stand my hair making me hot, thus the new doo. My new summer doo is now called ‘bouffant’ in our home.

My Gift From New York City

While Hubby was visiting NY he called to see what I wanted him to bring back to me. I told him truthfully that “all I want is you,” I was honest and did not want anything more.

During his visit to China Town, Hubby noticed this beautiful Asian porcelain lady. I have another porcelain lady by the same artist and he knew that I absolutely love these figurines. He brought her back especially for me and I immediately found the perfect setting just for her. Hubby has the knack for finding perfect gifts for me all the time, but more than the gifts, I appreciate him for always thinking about me.

Unpacking More Boxes

Hubby and I worked on the stack of boxes in our garage this weekend. Yes, it looks like we are moving in as the boxes are stacked so high and fat chance of us getting our cars in the garage. Hubby and I just finished bringing all the things we had in storage for the past year home to our garage.

We have quite a bit of my mother – in – laws things. Ma lives in a nursing home, it’s more like a hospital/nursing home. She’s had trouble with her knee for several years and had to have a knee replacement and the leg just gave her fits. A few years ago she had a fall in her home as her knee just gave out. Infection set in a couple years ago and she had to have that leg removed. She is such a character and calls that leg her stub.

She will be 80 years old in October and is as lively as some of the liveliest youngsters I know. She does not forget a birthday and as a matter of fact, she does not forget anything. I love being in her company and listening to her stories from years past. She is such a tease and will bring a smile to anyone who is in the room. I never got to meet Hubby’s father as he passed away the year before I met Hubby but from the stories I hear he was quite the character and a tease.

Hubby and his brother met in Arkansas after their mother had her surgery to take care of all of their mother’s belongings. When Hubby got home with a load of things, we realized we needed storage. After dealing with storage for a year, we realize we just need to go thru those things – mostly papers…box by box and get it cleaned out. This weekend was dedicated to getting some of the boxes cleaned out. Just one box at a time and we will eventually have a clean garage once again.

The Joys Of Knowing How To Type

A S D F J K L :

Can you relate? Does it ring a bell? When I first sat down to learn to type, my typewriter rang a bell to let me know it was time to take the carriage return and give it a little help so that I could return and continue typing. When I was in typing class, my electric typewriter was broken most of the time and I used a manual typewriter for the most part. I’m so thankful for that little manual as it taught me all I need to know about typing and gives me a great appreciation for my wonderful keyboard that I use today. Can you believe that we actually had to learn to center back then? We had to manually set our margins, and scroll our paper in and get it all situated such that it was all lined up nice and even. We could not change the font if we were board with it or use all the other cool tools Microsoft Word offers us. We’ve come a long way baby!

Does anyone remember their first typing class and how they learned to type? Well I sure do and to this day I don’t take that class for granted. As a matter of fact, I think typing is the class I benefit from most. I’m so happy I elected to take typing in high school, little did I know at that time that one day I would have my very own desktop computer. I type each and every day and don’t even think about where the keys are anymore. It’s just like learning to ride a bike or learning to swim, once you learn, it stays with you for life.

Hubby and I use what’s called the game room on the second floor of our home for our office. It’s a nice size room where we both have our computers and bookshelves set up and the place where we retire at the end of the day. We both love computers and spending time together so it’s our way of being together, chatting about our current events and calling it a day.

Hard Rock Cafe

Hard Rock Cafe Game Room, Not Debbie’s Kitchen

Hubby and I go to all the Hard Rock Café restaurants no matter what city we visit from Shanghai to Seoul Korea, Maui, NYC, London, St Louis and so on. We collect memorabilia from all the places we visit and have plans to have a Hard Rock Café Game Room one day all set up with a little kitchenette, blah, blah, blah…

Now that does not mean under any circumstances that I want my kitchen to turn into Hard Rock. For those of you who don’t know how I like my refrigerator, I’ll break it down for you something like this…I don’t like anything, that’s ANYTHING on it period not even “cool” looking magnetic bottle openers from Hard Rock. Hubby has this really neat bottle opener from Hard Rock St Louis. He plays games with me from time to time to get a kick out of seeing how long it takes me to notice the newest latest and greatest gadget he put on my clean fridge. Of course I notice right away and with a little smile I take it back to “his” fridge because it’s in his garage. I don’t care what he puts on the one in his garage. He thinks I’m silly to have such a notion not to have anything on “my” fridge but that’s the way I like it and he’s okay with that.

The other day I knew he had something up his sleeve as he made a comment to the effect that his Hard Rock bottle opener could perhaps indeed be on my fridge. I didn’t think anything of it because I couldn’t see it and if it’s out of site, what’s the big deal. In my cleaning routine this week I found it! It was on top of “my” fridge way out of my site. I figure, if I can’t see it, then it’s not a problem. His bottle opener is welcome to stay on the top of my fridge and live happily ever after.

A Day Around The House

What a nice and relaxing day for Hubby and me. We slept in and pretty much just hung out here at the house today. I spent a couple hours just looking for recipes or shall I say “healthy recipes” and want to try out some new ones. I have around 8 Weight Watcher cookbooks and hopefully I found some really great meals. I’ll give a couple of them a whirl next week. We watched a nice movie tonight. Nothing major, just enjoyed each others company.

Amistad

Hubby and I just finished watching Amistad. This was a colorful movie, with a gripping performance, based on a true story dating back to 1839 regarding slavery. Amistad was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1997. John Quincy Adams played by “Anthony Hopkins” plays an important roll and has a dramatic speech toward the end that brought goose bumps and tears. There were a few parts that I just could not watch during the film as it’s really hard for me to watch any type of cruelty. Fortunately those parts did not last long. I know it’s a film but I still can’t watch.

Freedom has a different meaning depending on who you ask. I am so thankful for our freedoms and don’t want to take for granted the freedoms we share. I personally don’t know what it’s like to “want” or long for “freedom” in any fashion. I’m truly blessed and that I’m thankful for.

If you have not seen this movie, it’s well worth it.

Blessings to all and goodnight.
