A Climb To The Top

It was such a beautiful day for a hike to the top of a nearby mountain.  And yesterday was just the day.  I can say I have successfully reached the summit of a mountain as this was my first experience.  Words can’t express the joy I felt when I reached the top.

My new hiking shoes helped me reach the summit.

Walking sticks, how did hubby know I would need these?  He’s a wise man as I would not have made it to the top without them or him.

There was a black weatherproof box at the top with a book enclosed.  The book was for any and all to sign.  It was fun to reach the top and leave our mark.

Blackhawk in the distance as we enjoy the cool breeze on top of the world.

This was such a high for me as we perched ourselves up there for quite a while.

Our Journey to the top was pretty amazing.

At some point I asked hubby if he remembered to pack the tent.  Tent, what tent?  We don’t own a tent.  But it was one of those times I believe I could have spent the night.

All great adventures have to come to an end.

In this case, it’s time to plan another adventure.  As we like to say, life is one great big adventure after another.

The Night The Lights Went Out

I interrupt our St Louis travel pix with an update to say we’re home sweet home!  Just one day into settling in we were hit with that huge power outage yesterday afternoon.

When the power goes off in San Diego, we party!  Hubby grilled a mean chicken and veggie meal.

We shot pool before it got too dark and played backgammon by candle light.

We settled in the backyard where we enjoyed the beautiful night sky, cool breeze and bonfire.

This is as close to camping as we get.  What a beautiful night all the way around.

Our emergency radio came in handy.  Hubby posted this to his Facebook status, live as it happened:  “Some reporter just asked the spokesman when they knew there was a problem with the power grid, his response, “when the lights went out”. Bravo Sir, Bravo!”

Our little set-up.

The remains of our bonfire.  What a great way to make the most of our evening.

We were so thankful for the cool evening as it felt like air-conditioning with our bedroom windows open all night.

Sometime during the early morning hours, power returned and all is well in So Cal.

I Want To Be A Better Me

Do you ever feel you deserve a greater punishment for what you did?  Well last evening I was none too happy with my behavior in the pantry that afternoon.  I have no idea what came over me but I had not 1, 2 or even 3 tablespoons of peanut butter but a 4th!  Of all things, there nearly went 4oo calories down the hatch without even giving much thought.  And that ate up the remains of my calories for the day.

I decided then and there that I was done eating for the day.  I felt just horrible and exclaimed “No dinner for you”!  Well it was as if my anxiety from trying to get daily duties done and planning for a trip went into full swing.  And then another wave hit and I sat down to a handful of crackers and jelly.  That took me over the top of my daily food allowance.  Shamefully, I did indeed exceeded the feed limit for the day.

As hubby walked through the door last evening, he exclaimed in his chipper voice “how’s my clicker”.  I like the way he brightened my evening.  Nearly the first thing I told him when he walked in the door (after greeting him with a hug and kiss) was just how bad I had been.  But he loved me right back and said “rack ’em up, I need to help calm you”.  It was as tho he could read my unusual bout of anxiety.

So we shot some pool…

…played backgammon and visited into the evening.

He worked his magic on me and I felt sweet peace once again.

Hubby encouraged me to pamper myself today, so I did.  Thank you My Love!

I don’t feel I deserved such a reward (he would argue that).  But darlin’ if you’re reading this, “that’s what makes me want to be a better me today and always”.

I'm A Clicker

Clicking anything to get it to do something is what I’m known best for around here.

If my camera is being used, it’s hard telling what setting I’ll change.

Or how many times I think I need to click the same thing.

There are times it’s necessary to tilt the camera and click.  That’s what makes me happy.

Then there are times I just like to CLICK!

Take for instance this mouse + stuff popping up on the screen = CLICK!  I click when I think I know what I’m doing, I click when I don’t know what I’m doing, I double-click to ensure I’ve clicked, I click when I just want that pop up ~ error ~ thingamadingy to go away.  People, it’s confirmed, I’m a clicker.

That’s when hubby has to come in and save the day.  He swoops in to ask, “did you block this or that”  me “I don’t know, I just click”.  Hubby stating in a warm silly tone.  “Yup, you’re my little clicker” as he proceeds to make it all better.  And we chuckled and laughed all afternoon because it’s so funny, yet true.  And he loves me because I’m a clicker, he wouldn’t have me any other way.  And that makes me so very happy.

A Hodge Podge Good Day

“And if you gaze for long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.” –Friedrich Nietzsche

I heard the above quote this week and it stuck.  The photo was taken from our backyard, a place I can truly get lost…

All that’s left of this snail is the empty shell.  From the moment I spied this in the backyard, my instinct was to capture it, so I did.

I never tire of the beautiful flowering trees.

Today was a hodge podge kinda day.

  • Met hubby for a short while
  • Picked up my prescription sunglasses – Love the new prescription!
  • Went food shopping
  • Took care of some business around the house
  • Enjoyed another wonderful evening with hubby.  We got our daily dose of shooting pool and backgammon.

I’ll say it’s been an enjoyable day all the way around.

What A Wonderful World

A perfect evening is when we’re lounging in jammies, music is softly playing, windows are open, sounds of crickets make up the background and all is right with the world.

Then is when I slipped into the garden for one last visit.

I enjoyed watching this spider go round and round creating the most impressive web.

My heart could not help but smile.

As our head hit the pillow at the end of the day, it was then we heard the most amazing chorus sing the grand finale.  Twas none other than a coyote family howling at the moon.  And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

August

Today is the day to catch up on the blog.  It appears I’ve taken a very long unexpected break from blogging.

I’m thrilled to announce that hubby and I have been seeking a new healthy lifestyle since mid June.  We’re experiencing good results!

In the above pic, you’ll notice I’m using a “Weight Watchers” jug for my water.  To be clear, I’m not doing the Weight Watchers program.  I’m just eating healthy foods and counting my calories.  Back to the jug, I love it as it holds a whopping 32 oz of fluid.  There are many days I’ll easily drink over a gal of water.

*********************************

Have you ever taken pix of every single bite you had to eat in a day?  It was August 3rd that I got the notion to photograph my eats.

Breakfast:  Scrambled eggs with a generous portion of sautéed peppers and onion.  Topped with 80 calories worth of cheese and loads of black pepper.

Lunch:  After such a hearty breakfast, fruit was all I wanted.

Mid Afternoon Snack:  1 serving of craisins + 30 g of walnuts.

Dinner:  Tuna + Corn + a nice hunk of onion = goodness.  If you’re thinking yuck, you may or may not be interested to know that sardines is also one of my favorite evening meals.  Did you know the little sardine is a giant when it comes to foods?  It’s been dubbed an “Important Superfood”, King of Omega-3’s, Brain boosting, good for joints, High-Quality Protein, without the saturated fats, bone-boosting calcium and known as one of the healthiest fish around.

And that’s a wrap of my food intake for that particular day.  I can’t imagine being a food blogger and taking pix of everything, but I did enjoy the experiment.

August 8 – The day I dug deep into the closet to find an article of clothing to inspire me.

Oats and walnuts are a huge hit.  This is going to keep me on track to get back in that dress.

August 10 – Oh the places I went that morning.  Hubby flew out-of-town bright and early.  I didn’t plan on anything other than to get myself home as we were up at 4am.  But home was not what I wanted to do once I had my cup of coffee.  So I ventured and enjoyed some me time at the harbor and beach for just over 4 hours.  I already have a notion to return again soon…

Lunch on the day hubby left – Lettuce, peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, ground (Jennie O) turkey burger seasoned with taco seasoning, salsa for my dressing with a sprinkle of (80 calorie) cheese over the top.

August 11 – To say I enjoyed my “Spa Day” would be an understatement.  I’ve been on the hunt for a good hairstylist since we moved to San Diego (nearly two years ago).  Let’s just say “I’ll be back”!  I loved the whole experience.  Next time I plan to stay a while longer to get a chance to enjoy the resort.  I truly was not expecting such a treat…

August 12 – I was such a happy wifey ~ Hubby was on his way home ~ I was down a dress size ~ I was in a dress I haven’t worn since I don’t know when ~ It was such a great day!

August 15 – I was in the mood for a reward while doing my food shopping early that morning.  So I picked up this dandy Prevention mag and found a nice place on the patio to indulge.  I also had a not so pleasant thing happen.  I had my regular cleaning at the dentist and discovered I had a cavity.  The good news “it was small and on the surface” + more good news “no numbing or pain to have it filled”.  The bad news, I was sad, really sad as this makes the second filling in my life.  I guess I just wanted to keep my teeth healthy for life.  Oh well, the world didn’t come to an end.

August 16 – I started walking again.  Do you ever quit something because you have a good excuse and then allow excuses to fill in when it’s time to pick it back up?  Well that happened to me regarding my walking.  I didn’t post this experience on the blog but I did indeed have another fall.  No sooner did my hands heal from my fall (about 6 or so weeks ago) and here I up and fell again!  I don’t even want to talk about it but truth be told, that’s why I stopped walking but not a great excuse as to why I didn’t get right back at it.

August 17 – Cheers!  This brings us to today!  I’m pleased to announce I got my walk in before I so much as had a sip of coffee.  I’ll say that’s a pretty big deal but so worth it getting out there first thing.

With that, we should be pretty much all caught up with August and this makes me very happy!

Summer in San Diego

Summer in southern CA is not known for plenty of rain.  In fact, we won’t look for any rain until fall or winter.

It’s a time when all sprinklers need a good check.  Our gardener does such a great job keeping up the garden.

He’s off checking more sprinklers…It was a fun day in the yard (yesterday) as hubby and I were helping out too.  I guess somebody had to be out there taking pictures to document our fun.

Each zone was thoroughly checked to ensure all plants and trees are getting their needs met.

The flowering trees of summer.

And a rose.

A shot of my hand (taken yesterday afternoon) in the healing process.  The pain is gone and the scabs are nearly (picked off) gone by this morning.

While my hands are healing, we’ve taken to walking the trail instead of riding.  We look to have our full gear soon such that we can ride again.

This was taken last evening on the trail.

This was part of our view.

We enjoyed all of this at a cool 75 degrees.

I love Summer in San Diego!

Happy Independence Day

Hubby has had a nice 4 day weekend.  We are taking advantage of it right around the house.  Chilling together would have to be the thing we enjoy most and if we get to do it at home, even better.  So we’ll be staying in again today doing a little bit of relaxing and crossing a few more things off our to do list.

For lunch, I craved hot and spicy turkey sausage with peppers and onions.  So good!  But I can’t say hubby was into this like me, this was mine all mine.

I’m thankful my hands are healing and I’m able to do so much more than I could do (without my hands hurting) a couple of days ago.

Hubby is still kissing my hands and making them feel all better each day.  I’m thankful for everything he’s done for me this past week.  Things like cut a watermelon open, take me grocery shopping, peal vegetables and cut them up, bandage my wounds when they hurt, kept a clean kitchen even down to cleaning the counters, opened my bottles of water and constantly ask if there was anything he could do.  He never ceases to amaze me and I never want to take his love for me for granted.

June Happenings

I can’t think of a better way to kick off the month of July than to kick off June from my list of things to do.  I hate being this far behind and only seeing three posts last month has me a bit disappointed.  There is only one way up and that = start where I left off and catch up as much as possible.

Time was spent in the studio creating – this vase stands 21″ tall.

Another creation…

I find the garden to be a soothing place to chill, even if it is for just a short break.  Picture taken just outside my kitchen window.

Fresh summer produce – these guys have already made some amazing strawberry smoothies.

A little statue in the garden – love him.

Time in the studio – one of my favorite pastimes…

Creating what comes to mind…

And letting some things go with the flow…

I started my diet in June and I feel really good with the progress I’ve already made.  Just thought I’d throw that in here somewhere.

Hubby and I spent many hours last month around the pool table.  I’m thrilled he takes the time to help me improve.

Another joy last month was taking pix in the garden and playing with them in Lightroom.

Lightroom fun…

The joy of Lightroom, I can’t seem to get enough.

We’re also busy downsizing.  After much thought and consideration, we came to the conclusion that it’s time to part with our china.  I spent time taking lots of pix for craigslist.  Love that place!

On the evening of June 27th, I had a little accident.

I had a spill off my bike Tuesday evening = Two hands messed up + one very sore knee + 1 scraped up arm + a scrapped up tummy (my stretchy pants did not stay in place).  I think I’m going to be ok.  Hubby says “next time I’m going to have you in full body armor” and I won’t argue with him either.

The above picture was taken after airing my hand 24 hours.  Hubby wanted me to see the Doctor (yesterday), I’m glad I did.  At least we know there’s no infection and the antibacterial soap and prescribed ointment should do the trick.  The Doctor also wanted x-rays of my knee, the results came back normal.  It will take 4 – 6 weeks for my knee to feel happy again.  I certainly can live with that.

Cheers to July 1st, it’s a new month and time to get back on track.

Our Little Road Trip

Why is it that when I get behind on the blog, all other posts have to wait?  I’ve been wanting to post our little venture from last weekend all week-long.  I also have more things to post but I seem to want to post things in order.  So, here we go back to a week ago Friday.  Cheers to getting caught up and more posts to come from this past week.

The long and winding road trip – Hubby took the corners nice and slow as I have a tendency to get a wee bit car sick.  Luckily the motion didn’t bother me too much.  He’s such a good driver.

Follow the curve in the road…

It was such a pretty drive.

The views were ever-changing…

An hour later we arrived to this quaint little town…

Mil’ Fluer Cochin Bantum Chickens – These cute guys roamed around the outdoors of the galleries.  Too cute, I’ve never seen the like in my life.

I was smitten…

This is the home where the chickens live.

We shopped…

It was the first time I’ve seen these Coke bottles, I thought they were picture worthy.

We had a nice little lunch at the local Italian restaurant.

1 horse power right here waiting to give another ride around town.

Last but not least we used yelp to find the best rated pie company.  Let me back up and say…You can’t go to Julian without getting a piece of apple pie.  There are many places that offer pie but we were in search for the top rated company.  The other pie companies may be great but we were delighted with our choice.  Thank you yelp!

We enjoyed our visit but that pie had to be the highlight of our day.  After all, it was one of the main reasons we went.  It’s cool sometimes to break out and see what the fuss is all about.  It was a great experience.

Hubby's Home

As I made my way towards the airport, I had a rush of excitement knowing hubby would be home from his business trip.

I’ve seen/passed by this anchor many times.  But today as I passed by, it spoke to me.  It was a huge reminder of the way I feel in our relationship.  I feel secure, at peace and filled with contentment knowing whatever happens, he will always there.  With him by my side, I feel that strong sense of stability knowing that whatever happens “we are in this together”.  That’s a big deal.

I made my way to my favorite spot to park and wait, aka the cell phone lot.  Thank you San Diego Airport for providing this for us.  I love arriving 30 or so minutes early such that if he gets in early, I’m right there to pick him up.

It’s not such a bad place to hang out either.  Check out the view from where I’m parked.  I was standing on the running board of my car (SUV – I always refer to it as my car), that’s the top of the car you see in the bottom of the pic.

More views from where I’m parked.

Based on the time I knew hubby was flying in, I started taking pictures of this plane coming in.  I had a sneaking suspicion hubby was in there.

I was right…

As I watched this US Airways flight land, my phone rang and hubby was on the other end saying “honey, I’m home”!

Welcome home my love, I’ll be right there!

Moments later his arms were around me and I decided then and there I never wanted him to go on business without me.  Of course I decide that every time he leaves and he contends he never wants to leave home without me.  If only it were that easy.

To be sure, we are spending the rest of the weekend catching up on visits and games and more visits and most importantly, just spending the weekend together.  I’m whole again and it feels good.

Happy Weekend My Friends!

Blessings – Debbie

The Weekend Rocked

Oh the things we accomplished over the weekend.

Getting new cell phones was a big event for us.  We got our very first smart phones yesterday, May 1, 2011!  We agreed that it felt like signing more papers than purchasing a home.

Since we’ve been with Verizon for many years and very happy with our service, we could not imagine switching over to AT&T.  So we waited and waited some more.  With rumors of the iPhone 4 hitting the market, we waited some more.  We were bound to get the iPhone (with Verizon service) up until hubby read the reviews.  It turned out to be a no-go.  So we waited and contemplated and that’s when hubby turned his sights over to the Thunderbolt.

When the Thunderbolt by HTC hit the market, it truly got hubby’s attention all the way around.  As for me, it didn’t get my attention ’til it hit the palm of my hand.  I had no clue what I was missing.  The service is top notch and the quality of this guy rocks our world.

I was all set to keep the old phone ’til it died.

The texts were always short and sweet and only done with hubby.  It got the job done.

But now?  Take a look at this.  Even tho I had an idea what I was missing, I’m finally able to grasp it first-hand.

Of course many of you know this already.  But it sure is a lot different when experiencing it for the first time.   I may trade in my lap top for this little dandy.  I kid, but that’s how much fun I’m having at the moment.

We had company yesterday!  This is the first time for both hubby and me to see a lizard this size in the wild.  This does not include zoos/pets.  He came running right up to the back door and wanted in.  Hubby said “get the camera!”  Hubby estimated him to be at least 18″ – 20″ long.  He was HUGE!

Over the weekend we also accomplished other things like:

  • 2 trips to the party supply store
  • A trip to party rentals – we’re renting a table and chairs for the party next weekend.  It seems the way to go to have the items delivered and picked up after our little outdoor event.
  • A trip to Wal-Mart, TJ Max, Home Depot and even the .99 cent store
  • A number of fun things were purchased for the party and I can hardly wait to get things set up.

Cheers to an exciting week!  Instead of working in the studio this week, I’m/we’re planning a party.  Fun ~ Fun!

A Change Of Plans

Good afternoon!  It’s a lovely day here in sunny southern California.

An early morning stroll in the garden proved to be a joyful experience.

Buds and blossoms were so pretty in the morning light.

This multi colored rose is my favorite rose in the garden.  There’s just something about those colors…

Today has been one of those change of plans kind of days.  I thought I would start work in my studio this morning.  I went craigslist shopping instead.  It was fun to get out there and see what was available.  I didn’t buy anything “yet”.

Hubby invited me to join him for a nice little lunch date.  I did that instead of playing in the mud.  Dates are always the best choice when given the opportunity.

This afternoon was filled with a bit of laundry from the weekend and getting all caught up on the ironing.  It’s truly a feel good kind of Monday.

I Love You Weekend

Thanks to hubby for bringing in fresh flora from the backyard.   The greenery was cut from the lily.

I love the arrangement + I love his idea to put it here.

I had them in the kitchen but we enjoy them so much more in this area.  Thanks again hubby for suggesting the move out here.

I hope to make this (picking flowers from the backyard) a weekly tradition from now on.

The weekend has been filled with…

  • First things first, Hubby used a vacation day Friday and took off = sweet
  • Planning a party (here at the house in a couple of weeks)
  • Dinner date this evening
  • Shooting pool
  • Backgammon
  • A little future vacation planning – Should be fun
  • Hanging outside while enjoying some music via the outdoor speakers
  • enjoying meals on the patio
  • Planning a future yard sale – Cheers to getting rid of more stuff

I don’t want the weekend to end…

Happy Easter!
